March 3rd, 2016: The Accident
As I mentioned in my first post, Titanium Yoga was born on March 3rd, 2016, when I was in a horrible accident.
Allow me to backtrack a little bit.
I was living in Dallas at the time, working for a start-up clothing company, and one of my job tasks was to sign professional athletes as brand ambassadors. I was in Florida visiting spring training camps, and on the morning of March 3rd, I left the Fort Lauderdale area for Tampa.
As you get to know me, you will find that I have a weakness for fast food and Coca-Cola. I stopped by a Wendy’s somewhere in the middle of Florida and ordered a large Coke, spicy chicken sandwich – no mayo, only BBQ sauce – and fries. My Wendy’s order would be the last thing I remember – not to mention the last thing I would eat – for a long time!
What I know now is a police officer was using radar a few hundred feet in front of me to catch speeders, and he heard the crash occur from where he was parked, about a tenth of the mile down the road. Due to the violent sound of the crash, he radioed his station as a Code Blue and asked for an ambulance and an Air Vac.
He knew the crash had to be bad.
The officer thought I was gone until he blew in my face. From that point forward, I was in and out of consciousness as I was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.
Since I was in Florida on my own, I did not have family with me that day. The police officer stayed with me until I went into surgery.
Words cannot describe how grateful I am to him.
